What is Hearth to Horizon?
Hearth to Horizon is a non-denominational Christian micro-school launching in the 2025–2026 school year. We offer a Christ-centered, community-oriented educational environment that blends the flexibility and closeness of homeschooling with the fellowship, structure, and accountability of a vibrant classroom setting.
Students attend in-person classes two days per week. On the alternate days, they complete teacher-assigned lessons at home under the guidance of a parent. All at-home work is submitted and assessed by the teacher or teaching assistant during the next class day. Our program is designed for students approximately in 2nd grade through middle school, and we are happy to work alongside families to create a thoughtful plan for each of your children, even if they are not of an age to be enrolled.
In building Hearth to Horizon, I (Ruth Distad) set out to create the kind of school I want for my own children. I longed for an education that is joyful and engaging—full of hands-on learning and laughter—yet still rich in rigor and excellence. I wanted my children to be able to study under glorious October skies, while also benefiting from clear expectations and consistent rhythms.
I believe in the freedom, warmth, and deep connection that homeschooling can offer—but I also believe in the value of community, meaningful friendships, and shared purpose. I want my children to grow not only as strong students, but as compassionate leaders, lifelong learners, diligent workers, loyal friends, and devoted followers of Jesus Christ. Hearth to Horizon is the school born from those hopes—and I am honored to share it with you.
